Cattle have been utilized as a tool to enhance and maintain the grass resource. This is done with leased cattle creating both income and plant health and diversity. The ranch management has done an excellent job of keeping the cattle program integrated with the wildlife program.
Currently there is a yearling operation leased out on the ranch from May thru August, but there are many different options when it comes to grazing on the ranch. The current owners run 1,000 yearlings and have nearly 220 tilled acres. With the recent fire on the ranch, the damaged fences are being re-built through a state grant.
Water Resources
The ranch has 11 wells, 10 electric, 1 windmill, 15 miles of water lines, and 20 stock tanks. In addition, 12 different usable springs are on the ranch. Cattle and wildlife do not have to travel far to water. All water rights convey to the buyer.
There are also 4 pivots gravity fed by a high point water tank, creating ample feed for the critical early fall months, with elk in these pivots every night. The extensive pipelines feeding the stock tanks are fed by the wells on the property and create a unique hunting opportunity of patterning the elk to the water sources and the feed. There are several springs feeding in the draws, with 2 notable ponds on the western side on the property known as elk ridge. These ponds create a water source for game and cattle alike and help to spread animals out throughout the property.
